Kevin Clarke

"Cartweaver has changed our business from a run of the mill web design studio into a great all round company that is capable of delivering high end e-commerce solutions to our clients. This great application is very flexible and can be used straight out of the box with a number of supported payment processors or customised to use any payment feature currently out there. Cartweaver has certainly helped us make that 'step up' in our studio and we are able to confidently tackle any e-commerce projects with ease. An unexpected 'bonus' is that Cartweaver has enabled me to learn ColdFusion and as my knowledge of the two applications grow, we will make even bigger strides as a business"

Kevin Clarke
Owner - Online Design

Kevin Clarke is the owner of Online Design - an Online Marketing & Custom Web Development team based in the UK.

As a designer from the late 90's, he remembers the early web development tools were soon to become very restrictive and as the client base became more 'Internet savvy', Kevin turned from a market leader in HTML generation code to a market leader, Macromedia Dreamweaver – as it was known then but now Adobe owned – in order to help him create the compelling custom web designs he was designing.

With the design 'shackles' removed, requests for greater e-commerce integration coupled with control, flexibility and end user tools customers could handle when it came to inventory control, followed. Equally importantly was the ability to be able to take any of the creative designs out of the studio and 'mould' an e-commerce application to it.

After market research, Kevin settled on the purchasing of another market leader in Cartweaver ColdFusion.

As a complete programming language novice outside of HTML, ColdFusion was the choice over ASP or PHP models simply because it offered the best chance to learn a new language with minimum learn curve, due to ColdFusion's tag based code being very similar to everyday HTML - whilst still being able to integrate Cartweaver into existing sites right out of the box. A big selling point for Kevin he recalls.

Soon came the time that 'out of the box' styling was not for Kevin.
Enter the Cartweaver newsgroups!! An invaluable resource when staring out with Cartweaver and still remains so today.

"The nice thing about now - a year or so down the line", says Kevin – is I can go into the newsgroups and as well as get answers for any queries I might have crop up from all the excellent experts in there, I find I am able to help others who are just starting out and need help or advice. A great sense of achievement is felt when you can help somebody along the way and the Cartweaver NG's are a great 2 way street for that".

With the help of other users via the Cartweaver newsgroups, he found he was able to customise the basic Cartweaver files with ease, and still attributes his progress with ColdFusion to his initial positive experiences with Cartweaver. Although still learning ColdFusion in depth, Kevin now 'drops' his custom Cartweaver files into any site design with the minimum of ease having customised his own default set of CW files to be 'UK friendly' including converting all the admin files and adding many time-saving, re-usable modifications.

Kevin's company, Online Design UK http://www.onlinedesignuk.co.uk , has now grown from a single one man band to include 2 other designers on the team as well as other freelance ColdFusion developers both in the UK and USA, and offering a wide range of services including custom web design, email marketing, SEO services, hosting & more.

About the Project
This was a big project! This company run a successful family business in our city and like so many business, saw an opportunity to make sales online and add to their revenue. Trouble is, there are thousands of products in this store. Cartweaver handled it no problem but nevertheless, it's a time consuming process. However, the end result is a very comprehensive product range that the client will add to as time passes. The overall look and feel of the site it very colourful, yet user friendly and the Cartweaver back end – all customised, just finished the project off to the complete satisfaction of the client.
